When can a coach contact a prospective student-athlete?
For most sports, Division I coaches can begin contacting recruits on June 15 after sophomore year, or September 1 of junior year, depending on the sport.
Here are a few key dates:
- Football: Coaches can start calling/texting June 15 after sophomore year
- Men’s & Women’s Basketball: June 15 after sophomore year
Before these dates, coaches can’t contact you directly, but you can contact them (via email or phone you initiate).
Please refer to the NCAA Recruiting information page and the NCAA Recruiting Calendars and Guides for permissible contact periods by sport.
How can a prospect contact sport programs about being recruited?
Contact information for Villanova coaches and staff can be on the Staff Directory.
How can prospects ensure that they are being contacted by a coach and not a scammer impersonating a coach?
Prospective student athletes and their families should be aware of recent scams involving the impersonation of Villanova Athletics staff members, including coaches. Our staff will never ask you to pay for a visit to “show that you are serious” about Villanova, nor will they ask you to use payment methods like gift cards, CashApp, or money transfer to pay for camps. When in doubt, verify any unusual requests by contacting Villanova Athletics using official details found in the staff directory at villanova.com/staff-directory. What do prospective student-athletes need to provide prior to an official visit?
A potential student-athlete must provide a high school transcript (or equivalent) and must be registered with the NCAA Eligibility Center.
May a prospect call a booster?
YES. A booster may talk to a prospect ONLY IF the prospect initiates the call and the call is not prearranged by a Villanova staff member. The discussion may NOT have a recruiting question and must be limited to general topics. All athletically related questions must be referred to the Athletics Department.
What if a prospect knows that a booster is a Villanova graduate and contacts him/her to ask questions about Villanova?
IT IS permissible for the booster to take the call. If a prospect contacts a booster, he/she may answer questions regarding various aspects of Villanova as long as NO DISCUSSION takes place regarding Villanova's athletic program.
Is it permissible for a booster to telephone a prospect once the prospect has committed to Villanova?
NO. Even if the purpose of the call is only to congratulate the prospect, he/she is still a prospect and the same contact rules apply after committing (verbally committing, declaring intent to attend Villanova).
Is it permissible for a booster to accompany a Villanova coach when he/she visits the local high school or prospect's home?
NO.
