Recap | Box Score | Quotes | Photo Gallery

  • The game was suspended due to lightning for 1 hour and 9 minutes during the second quarter. The delay lasted from 4:33 p.m. to 5:42 p.m. and occurred with 13:49 remaining in the second period.
  • Both teams slogged through extremely hot and humid weather during what turned out to be a long and grueling game. The temperature was 90 degrees with little wind and high humidity at kickoff and the delay contributed to a 4 hour and 29 minute affair. Even without the delay the time of game was still a lengthy 3 hours and 20 minutes.
  • Junior quarterback John Robertson scored on a 20-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. It was the 35th touchdown of his career (all rushing) and moved him into sole possession of second place in school history for career touchdowns. He was already second in the Wildcats record book in rushing touchdowns. The only Villanova player ahead of Robertson is Wildcats legend Brian Westbrook (1997-01) who had 89 career scores, including 54 rushing touchdowns.
  • John Robertson also moved into eighth place in school history with 210 career points. He passed Mike Siani (1969-71), who had 208 career points. Next up ahead of Robertson is Adam James (2001-05) in seventh place on the all-time scoring list with 211 career points.
  • John Robertson registered his seventh career game passing for over 200 yards. He had three such games as a redshirt freshman in 2012 and three more games last year, most recently a 252-yard passing effort against Delaware in last year's finale on November 23, 2013.
  • The two touchdowns by senior wide receiver Poppy Livers in the second quarter were the fourth and fifth receiving touchdowns of his career. Livers also had two touchdown receptions last season in a 35-6 win over Penn on September 28, 2013. That game against Penn was also the first career 100-yard receiving game for Livers, with today's contest against Fordham being the second. Livers had 121 receiving yards in the Penn game last year.
  • Senior running back Austin Medley had a 16-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter. It was the second receiving touchdown of his career and first since he had a three-yard touchdown catch in a 35-17 win at Massachusetts on November 5, 2011.
  • Through the first two games of the season Villanova running backs have combined for seven receptions totaling 97 yards and two touchdowns.
  • Junior running back Gary Underwood had a career-high 75 rushing yards on eight carries, including the first rushing touchdown of his career.
  • Freshman running back Matt Gudzak made his collegiate debut and ran for 66 yards and a touchdown on just two carries, including a 61-yard touchdown run.
  • Villanova reached the 50-point plateau for the first time since a 54-24 victory at Stephen F. Austin in the second round of the FCS playoffs on December 4, 2010. The last time the Wildcats posted a margin of victory of at least 44 points was last season in a 45-0 win at Rhode Island on November 9, 2013.
  • The outcome of today's game marked Villanova's largest margin of victory over a nationally-ranked opponent since the Wildcats restored football at the FCS level in 1985. Villanova is 54-65 (.454) all-time (since 1985) against ranked opponents, including 35-24 (.593) in home games.
  • The 26 points scored by Villanova in the second quarter made it the highest scoring period since the Wildcats put up 28 points in the second quarter of a 35-17 win at Massachusetts on November 5, 2011.
  • Villanova finished the game with 514 yards of total offense, including 300 rushing yards and 214 passing yards. The last time the Wildcats surpassed 500 yards of total offense was in the 2013 finale against Delaware (626 yards) on November 23, 2013. That game was also the last time Villanova reached 300 rushing yards (335) in a game.
  • The interception by sophomore defensive end Austin Calitro with 4:51 to play in the second quarter snapped a streak of 447 plays by Villanova opponents in which the Wildcats had not forced a turnover. The streak began during last season's game at Towson on October 12, 2013 and consisted of six full games in addition to parts of two others.
  • In addition to Austin Calitro recording his first career interception and first career touchdown, junior safety Cameron McCurry tallied his fifth career interception and a 32-yard (non-scoring) return in the second quarter.
  • Villanova finished the game with 12 tackles for loss and six quarterback sacks. It was the most tackles for loss for the Wildcats since having 13 at Rhode Island on October 18, 2008 (44-7 win) and the most sacks since Villanova had seven sacks at Maine on September 29, 2012 (35-14 win).
  • Junior linebacker Don Cherry had career highs of four tackles for loss and three sacks, while senior nose guard Pat Williams added two tackles for loss and a sack. Senior linebacker Joey Harmon and sophomore defensive tackle Tanoh Kpassagnon also had one sack apiece.
  • Villanova held Fordham to just 18 net yards rushing on 27 carries. It was the fewest rushing yards allowed to an opponent since the Wildcats gave up just 17 yards to Towson in a 43-7 victory on September 18, 2010.
