Weekly Wrap: Villanova Announces Top Performers for the Week Ending November 9

New for the 2025-26 academic year, Villanova will announce its top performers from the previous week in a press release and social media post each Monday afternoon. The weekly wrap will recognize one standout student-athlete from each sport who competed during the previous week.

VILLANOVA, Pa.—What a week to be a Wildcat! From a school record performance in football to postseason competition in field hockey and a resounding start to the men's and women's basketball seasons, it was a week of wall-to-wall action for Villanova Athletics. By the time the calendar got to November 9, it marked the 12th consecutive day with at least one team in competition. Below are the 10 members of the Villanova Athletics Weekly Wrap for the period of November 3-9.

Men's Basketball
Duke Brennan, Senior, Forward, Chandler, Ariz.

Brennan began his Villanova career with back-to-back games of 15+ rebounds against No. 8 BYU and Queens University of Charlotte. He totaled 25 points and 35 rebounds in the two games, including a monster 17-point, 20-rebound effort in the win over Queens. Brennan is the Wildcats first player with a 20+ rebound game since Daniel Ochefu had 24 against Seton Hall on January 3, 2015. Earlier in the week, he had eight points and 15 rebounds against BYU.

Women's Basketball
Jasmine Bascoe, Sophomore, Guard, Milton, Ont.

It was a busy opening week for Villanova with three games on the schedule against Lafayette, Fairfield and VCU. Bascoe, a preseason All-BIG EAST selection, led the Wildcats in points, rebounds and steals for the week. She averaged 19.0 points per game and 6.3 rebounds per contest while totaling 10 assists and five steals. Bascoe's best game of the week was against Fairfield when she tallied 30 points, eight rebounds, two assists and three steals.

Field Hockey
Ava Borkowski, Graduate, Forward, Villanova, Pa.

Villanova gave top-seed and nationally No. 7 ranked Liberty all it could handle in a BIG EAST semifinal game on the Flames home field. Borkowski scored the Wildcats only goal of the game in the 47th minute to tie the score at 1-1 with 13:13 left in the contest. It was the ninth goal of the season for Borkowski, who earlier in the week was named the BIG EAST Co-Offensive Player of the Year. She ended the year with nine goals and 18 points and 37 shots.

Football
Ja'briel Mace, Junior, Running Back, Somers Point, N.J.

Mace had a day for the ages as he rushed for a school record 291 yards and four touchdowns in a 28-10 win over Towson. He broke the previous Villanova record of 287 rushing yards in a game which was set by Brian Westbrook on November 10, 2001, against Hofstra. Mace tallied the second-most rushing yards in a game this season by any Division I player (FBS or FCS) and had more rushing yards than Towson had yards of total offense. He scored his four touchdowns on runs of eight yards, 39 yards, 82 yards and 22 yards. Mace earned his third CAA Football weekly honor of the year when he was named the league's Offensive Player of the Week on Monday morning.

Golf
Matt Zerfass, Senior, Macungie, Pa.

Zerfass was the individual champion of the Big 5 Invitational and led Villanova to a team title as the Wildcats closed out the Fall season in impressive fashion. He carded a round of 69 (-1) at The 1912 Club in Plymouth Meeting, Pa., marking his first round in the 60's this season and claiming the first individual victory of his Villanova career. Zerfass made three birdies in a span of four holes at No. 5, No. 7 and No. 8, and eventually held off a player from Drexel to earn medalist honors by a single stroke.

Men's Soccer
Matthew Klann, Freshman, Midfielder, Lindenhurst, Ill.

Klann closed out his collegiate rookie season by scoring goals in each of the Wildcats last two games of the season. He netted the only tally of the game against BIG EAST rival Marquette in the season finale, scoring in the eighth minute of a 1-0 win despite Villanova being outshot by a 22-4 margin in the contest. Earlier in the week, the Wildcats posted a dominant 6-0 shutout of Holy Family in which Klann contributed a second half goal. He wrapped up his freshman season with three goals, one assist and seven points on 14 shots.

Men's Swimming & Diving
Max Kunisaki, Freshman, Free/IM, Cockeysville, Md.

Kunisaki makes his second appearance of the season on the Weekly Wrap after he tallied three first place finishes in a team win over Providence this weekend. The first year collegian from Maryland was a double individual winner against the Friars with first place showings in the 50 yard freestyle (23.81) and the 100 yard butterfly (56.55). He opened the meet by anchoring the 200 yard medley relay squad to a first place finish. Villanova defeated Providence, 187-73.

Women's Swimming & Diving
Winnie Jalet, Senior, Breast/IM, Ann Arbor, Mich.

Jalet was one of the Wildcats top performers in a midweek matchup against Penn. She claimed a pair of top-two finishes in the breaststroke during the meet, finishing first in the 200 yard breaststroke (2:20.50) and coming in second in the 100 breast (1:04.32). At the start of the meet, Jalet swam the second leg of the 200 yard medley relay for a Villanova team which came in second in the relay in 1:44.40.

Men's Tennis
Will Monahan, Junior, Rye, N.Y.

Villanova closed out the Fall season playing in the Dragon Invite at Drexel over the weekend. Monahan tallied an impressive singles victory over an opponent from NJIT on Saturday, winning in straight sets to claim a 6-4, 6-4 decision. Earlier in the tournament, he teamed with Thomas Wakefield in doubles action against Temple.

Volleyball
Abby Harrell, Junior, Outside Hitter, Ellenburg, Wash.

Harrell continued her remarkable season with a pair of identical double-doubles of 16 kills and 11 digs in BIG EAST matches against Georgetown and No. 12 Creighton last week. She added two block assists in each match and had a .289 hitting percentage for the week as the Wildcats swept the Hoyas and took a set against the nationally-ranked Bluejays. Harrell is averaging 3.85 kills per set and 2.91 digs per set this season.
