In Saturday's 48-41 loss to the University of Pittsburgh, Villanova sophomore running back Brian Westbrook tallied 428 all-purpose yards, easily eclipsing Pete D'Alonzo's school record of 322 all-purpose yards set in 1950. On the day, Westbrook rushed 10 times for 114 yards, made 10 receptions for 116 yards, returned three kickoffs for 152 yards and tallied three punt returns for 46 yards. He scored four touchdowns, including two receiving scores, one rushing touchdown and an 89-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.
Besides setting the Villanova school record for all-purpose yards in a game, Westbrook established the school mark for kickoff return yards in a game with 152, highest average per play at 16.4 yards and he became the first player in school history to record two career kickoff returns for touchdowns. Only a sophomore, Westbrook now owns six Villanova school records.
For his efforts against Pittsburgh, Westbrook was named Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Week.
