Villanova, Pa. - Villanova senior Meghan Sarbanis (Hampstead, N.H./Pinkerten Academy) competed this past weekend at the World Indoor Rowing Championships in Boston, Mass. Sarbanis took part in the Crash-B Sprints, one of the biggest, most prestigious indoor events of the year. Considered one of the top elite lightweight rowers in the country, Sarbanis lived up to her reputation finishing seventh among the best rowers the world has to offer, with a time of 7:17.4. In qualifying times, Sarabanis was seeded seventh behind the following women; Ilona Mokronowska (Poland), Lisa Schlanker (U.S. National Team), Jen Meredith (Canada), Sarah Gardner (U.S. National Team and two-time World Champion), defending champion Anna Heleberg (Denmark) and Helen Casey (England).
"Meghan had an excellent showing, we are extremely proud of her, she has worked hard to get where she is now," said head coach Jack St. Clair. "This was a great opportunity for her to showcase her talent among a great field of rowers."
Villanova was also represented in the collegiate division championship by junior Amber Kyle (Telluride, Colo./Telluride H.S.), sophomore Maureen McCurry (Chicago, Ill./St. Ignatius College Prep) and Lindsay Walters (Wayne, Pa./Radnor H.S.). On the men's side, Tim Brislin set a school record with his performance of 6:08.04.
