May 18, 1999

Last weekend, a limited number of the Villanova women's crew team competed at the Champion International Collegiate Regatta in Worchester, Mass. The squad was small due to final exams and graduation ceremonies held back on the Main Line.

In the events that the Wildcats were registered in, Villanova came through in impressive fashion. In the varsity lightweight eight race, Nova took the grand final with a time of 7:23.80 defeating Mercyherst, Holy Cross, Ithaca and Tufts. In the Novice Eight, Villanova took fifth with a time of 7:22.80. The University of New Hampshire posted the victory with a time of 7:10.40.

Villanova is coming off their second consecutive womens and overall points at the Dad Vail Regatta, which was accomplished two weeks ago. The lighweight eight boat will defend their national championship in two weeks at the IRA Championships in Camden N.J.
