In one of their biggest events of the year, the Villanova women's crew team came through, winning the women's overall points trophies, for the second consecutive year. Despite the threatening weather, the Cats took the Jack and Nancy Seitz Trophy for women's competition with 38 points and posted 49 points to claim the Jack Bratton Trophy for the overall title.
The varsity heavyweight eight and junior varsity eight boats were the two individual champions. The heavyweight boat won with a time of 6:55.19, beating last year's champion Purdue and cross-city rival Temple. The JV boat edged Purdue and St. Joseph's for their crown.
"This was a huge day for Villanova crew today, I am so proud of this team," said head coach Jack St. Clair. "We knew what we had to do to win today, and that's just what we did. We set our goal and accomplished it."
The Wildcats also finished second in the freshman/novice eight, and freshman/novice lightweight eight, as the varsity lightweight eight boat took fourth.
