HARRISONBURG, Va. (AP) - Delvin Joyce ran for two touchdowns and broke the Division I-AA record for career punt return yardage as James Madison beat Villanova 57-23 Saturday.
James Madison (4-1, 2-0 Atlantic 10) led by only 33-23 late in the third quarter but broke the game open with two interceptions and two long punt returns by Joyce to set up four short scoring drives in the fourth quarter.
Villanova (3-2, 1-1) had to play the fourth period without running back Brian Westbrook, who left with an ankle injury. Westbrook finished with 12 carries for 86 yards and two touchdowns.
Joyce returned four punts for 135 yards to give him 1,364 career yards, breaking the record of 1,230 yards set by David McCrary of Chattanooga from 1983-1985. His 34-yard return set up Mike Glover's 23-yard field goal midway through the fourth quarter, and his 46-yard runback led to Mike Connelly's 11-yard TD run with 4:24 left.
The Dukes led by only 10 when Jovonn Quillen intercepted a pass at the Villanova 43 late in the third quarter. Two plays later, Joyce scored on a 37-yard run to make it 40-23.
On the Wildcats' next possession, Chris Morant picked off a pass and returned it to the Villanova 12. Joyce scored from the 1 four plays later.
James Madison's Charles Berry, a senior, had a career-high 274 yards passing. He completed 15 of 20, including a 22-yard TD pass to Lindsay Fleshman.
