Villanova, Pa. - Villanova senior Marlena Robinson (Rochester, NY/Brighton) jumped a distance of 42'07.50" in the triple jump to capture the ECAC Indoor Championship and provisionally qualify for the NCAA Championships in that event. Robinson was one of four Villanova women's track and field team members in action at the 2001 ECAC Indoor Championships. Five members of the Villanova's men team were also in action at the 2001 IC4A Indoor Championships. Both events were held at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center in Boston, Mass.
On the men's side, Villanova senior Michael Brown (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) and junior Antoine Johnson (Tuckahoe, NY/Tuckahoe) both placed sixth in the finals of their respective events. Brown, who participated in the 400-meter run, crossed the finish line with a time of 47.89. He entered the finals seeded third after posting a time of 47.93 in the preliminary rounds. In the preliminary round of the 60-meter high hurdles Johnson ran extremely well and finished in a time of 7.96. His effort earned him the number one seed for this afternoon's final. In the final, Johnson ran a time of 8.12, finishing just ..33 seconds behind the winner, Chris Stokes of George Mason.
In other action, sophomore Jon Fasulo (Whitehouse Station, NJ/Hunterdon Central) stayed pretty true to his seeding to place seventh in the 3,000-meter run. Fasulo posted a time of 8:22.19 in the preliminary round to earn a sixth seed for the final. In the final, Fasulo fell slightly off his pace crossing the line with a time of 8:26.28.
Villanova freshman Carlos Bedoya (White Plains, NY/Archbishop Stepinac) entered today's final of the 200-meter run seeded seventh after running a time of 21.65. Bedoya ran a time of 21.97 in the final to earn himself a ninth place finish in that event. In the shot put, sophomore Patrick Moore (Upper Dublin, Pa./La Salle) participated in the final and threw a distance of 51'00.25 to place 15th.
On the women's side, senior Ann McGranahan (Pensacola, Fla./Pensacola), junior Melinda Boykin (Bridgeton, NJ/Bridgeton), and sophomore Christine Hefferman (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) joined Robinson in action. Boykin and Hefferman participated in the final of the shot put placing 12th and 16th, respectively. Boykin threw a distance of 43'09.25", while Hefferman posted a distance of 41'04.50". McGranahan ran in the final of the 3,000-meter run and crossed the line with a time of 9:53.94. Her effort was good enough to place her 15th.
