Villanova, PA - After a stellar performance from the women's varsity eight, the boat clinched first place in the Murphy Cup regatta on April 21, 2001. With a time of 7:01.80, the women pulled ahead of their second place competitors by 7.89 seconds. The team's extreme pursuit for victory was appropriately rewarded when Villanova listed as a top finisher in every event. Among other winning boats were the women's frosh/novice eight, who placed forth above Marist and Rochester, beating them by 11.88 and 12.88 seconds respectively. The women's frosh/novice four pressed forward to beat George Mason by exactly 1 second to finish in the top five. Another outstanding Wildcat performance was turned in by the women's lightweight eight, who placed second above fifth place Pittsburgh, by 1:00.50. Villanova's women varsity four achieved fourth place with a time of 8:05.47. Women's lightweight four completed the race to steal third place behind Fordham and Penn State. With a time of 7:35.30, only four and a half seconds behind Drexel, the women's second varsity eight secured the second place position to finish out the day on a good note.

The women's rowing team was also congratulated for their prominent performance by becoming the recipient of the Sean Brennan trophy. The team's next competition is on April 29, 2001, in Worchester, Massachusetts for the Big East Tournament.
