BOSTON, MASS. - At the 2002 Big East Conference Cross Country Championships at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass., the Villanova University men's cross country team placed three runners in the top five overall, en route to winning its third-ever Big East title and the first since 1993. The Wildcats, who finished with 39 points overall, were led by senior Jon Fasulo who placed second overall (23:48), junior Ryan Hayden who finished third (23:54), and senior Adrian Blincoe who posted a fourth place finish (23:59).
Villanova finished in first place with 39 points, 10 points ahead of second place Providence. Following the Friars were Georgetown which finished in third place (55), Notre Dame in fourth (132) and Boston College in fifth place (168). Winding down the overall standing were West Virginia (6th, 183), Virginia Tech (7th, 277), Syracuse (8th, 248), Seton Hall (9th, 270), St. John's (10th, 280), Miami (11th, 285), Pittsburgh (12th, 309), Rutgers (13th, 344), Connecticut (14th, 403).
Winning the Big East individual title was Providence's Adam Suttom, who crossed the finish line in a time of 23:37.
Other top finishers for Villanova were senior Tom Parlapiano who placed 11th in 24:11, junior Pat Dunn who finished 19th in 24:39, junior Jason Jabaut who posted a 21st place finish in 24:46, and Marc Pelbrin who crossed the line in 26th position in 25:02.
Wildcat head coach Marcus O'Sullivan and his staff were named 2002 Big East Conference Coaching Staff of the Year.
