The BIG EAST has sponsored a softball championship each season since 1990. The top four teams in the league participate. Connecticut has captured seven titles, including the Championship last season.
The 2002 Championship will be held for the first time ever at the James I. Moyer Complex in Salem, Va. The winner of the three-day event earns the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship. The schedule for the double-elimination championship is as follows:

FROM ROANOKE REGIONAL AIRPORT - (Approx. 1.75 Miles to Hotel):
*Exit Roanoke Regional Airport
*Turn right on Valley View Boulevard
*Exit Valley View Boulevard on Hershberger Road toward Interstate 581
*Proceed on Hershberger to first traffic light past Interstate 581
*Turn right and then turn right again immediately at the next light (This distance is less than 20 feet)
*Continue down this road and the Wyndham Roanoke Airport Hotel entrance is on your left
TO JAMES I. MOYER SPORTS COMPLEX - (Approx. 5.5 miles from Hotel):
*Turn right from the Wyndham parking areas
*Proceed to the first traffic light and turn left
*Immediately you are at a 2nd traffic light
*Turn right on Hershberger Road
*Follow Hershberger Road until it intersects with Peter Creek Road
*Turn left on Peters Creek Road (Rt. 117)
*Proceed on Peter Creek Road until it intersects with Melrose Ave (Rt. 460W)
*Turn right on Melrose Ave. Melrose becomes East Main Street upon entering the Salem City Limits.
*Follow East Main Street, to your 7th traffic light - at the 7th traffic light, turn left onto Union Street.
*Follow Union Street through 1 traffic light, then proceed approximately 1/16 of a mile and the Sports Complex will be on your left.
