Nardi, Ray and Bloch lead White Team to a Victory Over Blue

Oct. 25, 2003

Villanova, Pa. - Sophomore Allan Ray (Bronx, N.Y.) and freshman Mike Nardi each scored 15 points to spark the White team to a 46-38 victory over the Blue in the annual Blue/White scrimmage played here on Saturday morning.

Nardi and Ray set the tone from the outset as they staked their team to a 24-15 advantage at intermission. Nardi scored ten of the White's points in that period.

The Blue team, led by associate head coach Fred Hill, used an 11-0 run keyed by sophomores Randy Foye (Newark, N.J.) and Curtis Sumpter (Brooklyn, N.Y.) to take a 26-24 lead three minutes into the second half. But the White team, directed by assistant coach Brett Gunning, bounced back with senior Andreas Bloch (Wurmlingeu, Germany) sparking the charge. The White unit went on an 11-0 run of its own to regain control of the contest with five minutes left to play.

The Blue team never got closer than a four point deficit for the balance of the contest.

In addition to his 15 points, Nardi was credited with six assists. Bloch ended the session with 13 points and eight rebounds as the White team shot 50 percent on the day, including .615 from beyond the 3-point arc (8-13).

Foye led the Blue Team with 13 points and a pair of assists while Sumpter added 12 points and five rebounds. Sophomore Jason Fraser (Amityville, N.Y.) paced the Blue team with six rebounds. The Blue team connected on .441 of its field goal attempts and shot .357 from beyond the arc (5-14).

Among the prominent Villanova Basketball Alumni on hand for the festivities were Doug West (class of 1989); Harold Jensen (class of 1987) and Ron Wilson (class of 1995). This event was part of the 2003 Homecoming Weekend at Villanova.
