Villanova Announces Launch of a Student/Fan T-Shirt

Dec. 7, 2004

VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Villanova athletic department, along with the Student Government Association, Department of Music Activities and the Basketball Club, is happy to announce the launch of a new t-shirt for students and fans to wear at home basketball games. The shirts, the first of their kind, are dual sided and can be worn with either side as its front. One side is navy and features a large two color "V" logo, while the other side is white and displays the "Nova Nation" graphic that has become a part of basketball culture at Villanova. Students can purchase the new shirts during games from the athletic store inside the Pavilion. The shirts are also being sold at the West Campus Music Activities Office (St. Mary's Hall) and the Student Government Association Office.

Many colleges and universities have recently succeeded in creating a t-shirt representing school colors that a large majority of fans wear during home basketball games. Villanova's past attempts at creating such a shirt, especially for the student section, had come up short. The new shirt effectively combines the efforts of separate projects from last season that supported one white shirt and one navy shirt. There is also a new twist to the fan shirts, which will come in the form of a half-time event. The cheerleaders, along with the mascot and band, will lead the student section and fans in turning the shirts from the navy side to the white side. The change will change the backdrop of the student section from a "Sea of V" into "Nova Nation."

Community is a core value at Villanova University, which was founded in 1842 by the Augustinian Order of Catholic Priests. Within the University seal are the Latin words "Veritas, Unitas, Caritas," with "Unitas" standing for unity. The project to launch the new fan shirts began this past fall and has evolved into a true showing of unity and the spirit of the Villanova community. The groups involved in this project worked together, giving away a small part of their own projects, in order for this cross-departmental project to succeed. The future success for the fan shirts is promising as Villanova leads the way in transforming the creativity of student shirts across the nation.
