Villanova Takes Third in 2005 MASCUA Tournament

NORFOLK, Va.---Kristen Haynes struck out four and allowed nothing offensively, leading Villanova to a 4-0 victory over Delaware and a third place finish at the MASCUA Tournament on Sunday, Feb. 27, at Virginia Wesleyan. Earlier in the day the `Cats dropped a 6-0 decision to George Mason.

Shannon Williams took the loss for Villanova, pitching three and two-thirds innings, striking out six and walking two. Kat Walsh came in as the relief pitcher and struck out three. Walsh also gave up three runs and three walks. Both Lisa Krueger and Sarah Wall were 2-for-3 at the plate.

Haynes pitched all seven innings in the win over Delaware. She struck out four on her way to a shutout. Offensively, Sheri Donley was 2-for-4, Krueger was 2-for-4 and Wall was 1-for-4 with two RBI. Further statistics were not yet available.

The Wildcats return to action on Friday-Sunday, March 4-6, when they head to Charleston, S.C. for the Charleston Southern Invitational.
