Burroughs Lost For Season

Sept. 11, 2005

Villanova University junior starting quarterback Marvin Burroughs will miss the rest of the 2005 season due to a broken left arm. Burroughs suffered the injury on the first possession of the second half in Saturday's 38-6 loss at Rutgers.

"Marvin has sustained a broken left arm and specifically a fracture of the humerus which is the long bone above the elbow," said team doctor William Emper. "This type of fracture can take sometimes up to three months to heal so it would appear that Marvin will be out for the remainder of the season. Fortunately, the fracture does not involve the elbow or the shoulder joints, so he should have complete return of function once healing has occurred."

Prior to the injury, the 6-1, 215 pound Atlantic City, N.J., native completed 16-of-22 for 150 yards and one touchdown. As a sophomore last year, Burroughs started all 11 games and completed 209-of-334 for 2,486 yards and 20 touchdowns. The 2,486 yards rates as the ninth best single season passing mark in Villanova school history.

Burroughs will be replaced in the starting line-up by sophomore Frank Jankowski who came off the bench to complete 17-of-32 for 209 yards in the loss to Rutgers. The 6-1, 210 pound Jankowski is a 2003 graduate of Berwick High School in Berwick, Pa.
