VILLANOVA, Pa. - Head coach Andy Talley and the Villanova Wildcats opened spring practice on Thursday, March 30 with a two-hour morning workout. Villanova will practice throughout the month of April and will conclude spring drills with a final practice on Sunday, April 30.
"We are excited about spring ball starting up. The team has worked extremely hard during off season conditioning and we are looking forward to getting back on the field," said Talley. "We will make the most of our 15 practices as we begin preparing for next fall."
A big question surrounding the Wildcats this spring is the health of starting quarterback Marvin Burroughs. In last year's season opener at Rutgers, Burroughs suffered a season-ending arm injury. After six-month of rehabilitation, Burroughs is 100 percent and is cleared for full contact this spring. As a sophomore in 2004, he completed 209 of 334 for 2,486 yards to go with 20 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
Villanova returns 15 starters from last year's squad. The Wildcats will open the 2006 campaign on Saturday, Sept. 2 at Division I-A Central Florida. Villanova will also play a non conference game at Penn and will play host to Lehigh. In Atlantic 10 Conference play, Villanova will host Massachusetts, Towson, Richmond and James Madison and will play at Hofstra, at Maine, at William & Mary and at Delaware.
