Villanova Men Finish Third at BIG EAST Cross Country Championships

BRONX, N.Y. - The Villanova men's cross country squad finished third at the 2008 BIG EAST Cross Country Championships on Friday morning at Van Cortlandt Park in Bronx, N.Y. The men earned 78 team points and had two runners finish in the top 10.

The Wildcats were led by sophomore Ben Guest who ran the 8K race in 24:39 to finish in fifth place. Classmate Hugo Beamish was right behind him finishing in 24:40 earning sixth place.

Sophomore Keith Capecci crossed the finish line in 25:08 and earned 20th place, while junior Daniel Lewis and freshman Carl Mackenzie earned 23rd and 24th place respectively. Lewis ran the race in 25:17, while Mackenzie was right behind him in 25:21. Rounding out the Wildcats was senior Stephen Curley and sophomore Christopher Williams who earned 33rd and 36th place respectively.

With a top 25 finish, Guest, Beamish, Capecci, Lewis and Mackenzie earned All-BIG EAST Honors.

"The men really stepped up today," head coach Marcus O'Sullivan said. "They ran the best race that they possibly could and a third place finish is excellent. Ben Guest really came through for us, coming back after an injury."

Georgetown claimed the men's title with 35 points, while Notre Dame came in second with 64 team points. The Hoyas' Andrew Bumbalough earned the individual title finishing the race in 23:55.
