VILLANOVA, Pa. - Reigning champion in the 5,000m, senior Bobby Curtis held on to his title as he claimed the 2008 championship in the event racing to the finish line in 14:23.47 on the final day of competition in the 2008 BIG EAST Outdoor Championships held on the Jumbo Elliot track in Villanova, Pa.
Junior Elvis Lewis earned eight points for the Wildcats as he ran the 400m dash in 46.33, which was also a regional qualifying time. Lewis finished second. Sophomore Garret Kroner also scored points in the event as he recorded a finish of 49.31.
Senior Patrick Gazzini raced to a regional qualifying time of 51.58 in the 400m hurdles. He was second in the event, scoring eight points.
Senior Michael Kerrigan picked up points in the 1,500m run as he recorded 3:55.92 at the finish line.
The 800m run consisted of seven regional qualifying times in the field. Senior Mark Korich was one of them as he ran 1:49.89, also scoring points for Villanova.
The Wildcats' 4x800m relay team of junior Sean Tully, freshman Jason Apwah, Kerrigan and Korich raced to a third place finish with a time of 7:28.82.
The Wildcats came in eighth place after three days of competition. Notre Dame was the 2008 champions as Connecticut, Louisville, Cincinnati and Rutgers rounded out the top five.
