ORLANDO, Fla. - Redshirt freshman Taylor Olafson hit an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift Villanova (3-4) over North Florida, 2-1 on Friday afternoon in its second game of the UCF/Courtyard by Marriott II Invitational.
Junior Caitlyn Delahaba threw a stellar game pitching nine innings, allowing one run while striking out seven batters.
The game was scoreless through seven innings until UNF scored a run on a sacrifice fly to left field.
The Wildcats answered in the bottom of the inning after Marquez laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance junior Tessa Braga who was placed on second. Junior Molly Manning hit an RBI single to the shortstop sending Braga home to tie the game at 1-1.
After holding the Ospreys scoreless in the top of the ninth, Olafson's RBI single scored freshman Brittany Ewing and gave Villanova a 2-1 win.
Marquez, Manning, Olafson and junior Jamie O'Hara each connected for one hit.
The Wildcats will be back on the field Saturday as they face host school UCF at 6:00 p.m. followed by Michigan at 8:00 p.m.
