Sept. 20, 2014

Recap | Box Score | Photo Gallery

  • The 49 points for Villanova matched its highest-ever scoring output against James Madison. The only other time the Wildcats scored 49 points against the Dukes was in a 49-17 victory, also at Villanova Stadium, on October 4, 1997.
  • Villanova has scored 99 points in its last two games, including today's 49-31 victory and a 50-6 win over Fordham on September 6. The last time the Wildcats had 99 points in a two-game span was in the first two games of the 1997 season. In the two games that year, Villanova had 64 points against West Chester on September 6, 1997 and 35 points versus Delaware on September 13, 1997.
  • The two teams combined for 1,131 yards of total offense, with James Madison having 568 yards and Villanova registering 563 yards. The combined total was just 36 yards away from matching the Wildcats school record of 1,167 combined yardage. The existing record was set in a 51-40 loss to New Hampshire on October 2, 2004. In that game, New Hampshire had 643 yards of offense and Villanova had 524 yards.
  • The Wildcats have recorded 1,077 yards of total offense in their past two games, including 514 yards against Fordham and 563 yards against James Madison.
  • Senior quarterback John Robertson set a new career high with 337 passing yards. His previous career best passing performance was 308 yards against Richmond on October 6, 2012. Robertson also tied his career high with four passing touchdowns, matching the total he had against Towson on October 27, 2012.
  • Robertson completed his first 15 passing attempts of the game and finished 22-of-27 through the air. This is the second time Robertson has had at least 15 consecutive completions to begin a game. The other occasion came last year at Towson on October 12, 2013 when he began the game 17-for-17 and threw just one incompletion on his final attempt of that contest.
  • Junior running back Kevin Monangai recorded his ninth career game with at least 100 rushing yards. He finished the day with 15 carries for 129 yards. His performance moved him up five spots on the Wildcats all-time rushing list and he now ranks fifth in school history with 2,233 career rushing yards. During the course of the game, Monangai passed Chris Whitney (2007-10), Curtis Sifford (1994-97), Martin Gibson (2002-05), Jeff Johnson (1989-92) and Terry Butler (2001-04). Ahead of him in fourth place is Vince Thompson (1975-78) with 2,533 career rushing yards.
  • Monangai had two rushing touchdowns in a game for the fourth time in his career. His most recent two-touchdown game was at Rhode Island last season on November 9, 2013. The 129 rushing yards for Monangai are the fifth-most in a game during his career and marked his highest output since a 146-yard game against Delaware on November 17, 2012 in that year's regular season finale.
  • Junior wide receiver Mike Burke scored his first career touchdown on a six-yard reception in the first quarter. Senior tight end Earnest Pettway recorded his first career two-touchdown game and tallied the fifth and sixth scores of his career.
  • The interceptions by senior safety Joe Sarnese in the second half were the sixth and seventh interceptions of his career. He returned the second of his two picks for 36 yards and now has 75 career interception return yards.
