Villanova, Pa. - Wildcat junior linebacker Don Cherry (Trumbull, Conn.) has been named the Villanova Student-Athlete of the Month for December, as announced by the Office of Academic Support earlier this week.

Cherry helped Villanova advance to the quarterfinal round of the NCAA playoffs and led the 2014 Wildcats in tackles with 134 (82 solo) to go with a team-high 21.5 tackles for loss, a team-best 10 sacks and a team-high five forced fumbles.

He earned numerous honors in December for his play this past season. In addition to being named first team All-CAA, Cherry also garnered first team All-American acclaim from the Sports Network, Walter Camp Foundation and the Associated Press. He also finished second in the Buck Buchanan Award balloting which goes to the top defensive player in FCS Football.

Cherry is a finance major who is currently carrying a 3.59 GPA.
