Nov. 11, 2015 VILLANOVA, Pa.- Villanova head football coach Andy Talley spoke to the media at his weekly press conference Wednesday afternoon.
Talley touched on last Saturday's win versus Rhode Island, their upcoming game against Richmond, and the Spiders potent threat offensively.
Below are excerpts from his press conference.
Talley on Rhode Island Game Part 1:
"We are very pleased to be able to win two in row. Our quarterback Zach Bednarczyk is playing really well. He rushed for 123 yards and was real good throwing the ball. I think Rhode Island is an improved team even though record wise they're not. They were very physical. The game was on grass, and we haven't played on grass since the UConn game. Defensively, we held to them to three points. That's two weeks in a row now. We'll find out how that translates this week against a top team in the country."
Talley on Rhode Island Game Part 2:
"Good news for us is we came out the game injury free. I think we'll have the same group we have had for the last two weeks which is something new and interesting for us. Matt Gudzak did a great job for us Saturday. He's worked his way up from number three to really number one. We opened up the second half running the same three running plays and scored in 45 seconds. I have never seen that happen before. We played really well." Talley on the Richmond Game Part 1:
"The Richmond game for us is a game that still gives us a chance to win the league championship. Richmond has one loss in the league. They lost last week to New Hampshire. It's a big a game. If we can get through this game we can go into the last game of the year with a chance for a piece of title. From what I have seen of Richmond, they're as advertised."
Talley of Richmond Game Part 2:
"They have a real good quarterback and a couple of great receivers. They have a lot of talent across the board. For us, it will be interesting to see who can raise their level. Now, we're going to step up a class and play an elite team. We fill find out if we have transitioned from John Robertson to Zach, and if we have transitioned from a pretty solidified offensive line to starting freshmen at guard and tackle."
Talley on Richmond's skill set:
"They're really talented in terms of skill. They have a wideout Reggie Diggs who is 6'4 pro prospect. Kyle Lauletta is their quarterback. He's from up the road in Downingtown, Pa. He's having a banner year as their quarterback. They're a fairly young team, but they got out of the box and had a big win against James Madison down at JMU on national television. I think they're the surprise team in the league. Danny Rocco has done a great job."
Talley on the team's togetherness:
"Two weeks ago we could all see that this team is together. They like playing together. They like being together and they're still enjoying this experience which is what we really are all about. It's been fulfilling to finally get them over the hump. As long as we play hard I can walk out with my head up."
