RICHMOND, Va. - During the eighth weekly CAA Football teleconference of the season on Monday, Villanova head coach Andy Talley gave his thoughts on the Wildcats' game against Richmond and how the team is preparing to play Albany this week at home. Below is a transcript of Talley's comments.

On last week's game against Richmond: Richmond is very talented. You need to bring your A-game to win down there. They played very, very well. Offensively, we lost Zach Bednarczyk, our quarterback. He got hurt on the 15^th or 16^th play in the first quarter. Sometimes with a concussion, it comes along slowly. His reads were not where they needed to be. He threw a couple of picks as we were going into score. We really had to take him out of the game. He came off to the side and was really out of it. When you play your second quarterback, you better hold on tight. We were playing against a really good team as well. I think it was 10-0 at halftime. We were still in the game. We just weren't able to sustain anything in the second half and to close the gap. We had some opportunities. But when you're playing a top ranked team, three turnovers will kill you. We fumbled a punt and gave them a field goal. Our defense actually played very well throughout the game. We just didn't support them offensively. I think the loss of our quarterback hurt us a little bit offensively in terms of some things that we wanted to do. When you combine that with turnovers against a top ranked team, you're just flirting with danger. They're a very good team. You're going to have to bring your best game to beat them home or away. Playing down there is never easy. It was just one of those games that you've to go in with your package and you've got to play. We had a great defensive effort. The offensive effort was not what we had hoped for, but I think Richmond's defense had a lot to do with that. That's the other thing that you always have to manufacture. You're not going to get easy things against a defense like Richmond. All in all, a disappointing road trip for us. I don't know if we'll have Zach Bednarczyk back for this game or not. If not, Adeyemi DaSilva will be the guy that has to go in there and try to figure it out.

On what skills Adeyemi DaSilva brings to the table and if there will be any changes to the game plan: The first thing you have to do with him is you've got to simplify the offense a little bit. You can't give him all of the exceptions. We change at the line of scrimmage a lot. You have to limit what we're going to do with that. He's a run/pass threat. He's a guy that can do things with his speed as well as his arm. You've got to design enough stuff and make sure that you keep him healthy throughout the game. It's really one of those things where you have to be really careful what you do with him. It's going to be a complete revised kind of a game plan if he's going to be our quarterback. I won't know that until the end of the week. Everybody in our league has dealt with a concussion. Zach may be ruled out, or he may be allowed to play. If he is allowed to play, we probably won't have a whole lot of time to work with him. It's not the best situation when you're playing a team like Albany, who really if you take a look, they are doing a fabulous job. They could have very easily won their game against Richmond. Unfortunately they didn't in triple overtime. Then they go to Maine and actually had a chance to sneak away with that one on the road. That's a tough place to play, and everybody knows that. They very well could be undefeated. They are very good. They've now become an upper level team in the CAA, and they're somebody where you better bring your best game when you play them.

On the keys to the game against Albany: We can't turn the ball over three times that's for sure, or we'll get beat. That's the first thing that we need to do is get back to playing sound football. The big adjustment for us will be, is if Zach doesn't play, how we're going to get it done with a rookie quarterback. We've got to really engineer something that will work against them. They're a really good team. We're going to have to figure it out. Those are the two most important keys, and the third one is always the kicking game. We can't drop punts, can't fumble punts. We've got to do a better job there.

On the play of linebacker Austin Calitro on Saturday against Richmond's offense: Austin has been one of the outstanding linebackers in the CAA, week in and week out. He's fast, quick, aggressive and tough. He loves the game. He's a very, very important aspect of our defense. He covers up a lot of ills, kind of like Donny Cherry did last year. Sometimes if you have breakdowns in certain areas, he's free to make up a mistake.

On the play of punter John Hinchen: John has been terrific. He's just a great kid. He kept us in the game with his foot. He just did a wonderful job punting. That's really important when you're not playing well offensively. The defense a lot of times had Richmond on the 10 or 15-yard line. Tribute to John. He's been great, and we have another year with him. We're very excited about that.
