Oct. 4, 2016 NEW YORK - Senior Angel Piccirillo (Homer City, Pa.) was named the BIG EAST Female Athlete of the Week for cross country in an announcement made by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon. This is the second time in her career that Piccirillo has earned the BIG EAST weekly honor during the cross country season.
Villanova competed at the Paul Short Run last weekend and Piccirillo won the meet's individual title in her season debut. She covered the 6,000 meter course in 19:57 and tallied a 15-second margin of victory over the rest of the field. Piccirillo tallied her first career individual win in cross country and led the Wildcats to a sixth place finish out of 45 teams.
The winning time of 19:57 for Piccirillo is both a personal best and the 10th-fastest by a Villanova runner on a 6,000 meter course. Next up for Piccirillo and the Wildcats is the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational on October 14.
