Villanova (5-6, 1-3) won its first BIG EAST game of the season, defeating Quinnipiac (3-9, 1-3) 2-1 in Hamden, Ct.

Senior forward Megan Vermeil got the Wildcats on the board three minutes into the first quarter with an unassisted goal.

Quinnipiac scored just two minutes later, evening the score to one all.

The Bobcats scored again in the second quarter, but after the goal was challenged and reviewed, the scoring play was taken off the board.

Senior Lydia Sydnor put the Wildcats ahead 2-1, scoring her tenth goal of the season off a penalty corner in the 43rd minute.

Sydnor was assisted by senior forward Abby Siana.

It was Siana's third assist in 2019.

Sophomore goalkeeper Jordan McGinley made three saves in the game.

This was the Wildcats third win in a row over the Bobcats.

Villanova return's home on Sunday when they host La Salle (6-6, 3-1) at 12 p.m.
