Wildcats Head Back on the Road to Face New Hampshire

Final road game of the regular season will be Villanova’s first trip to Durham in six years

VILLANOVA, Pa.—In its final road game of the regular season, No. 11 Villanova (6-2, 3-2 CAA Football) travels to New Hampshire (4-3, 3-1) for a 1 p.m. kickoff on Saturday afternoon.  This will be the Wildcats sixth road trip in the first nine games of the season and the team will be looking to continue its recent success away from home.  Villanova is currently 4-1 on the road this season and owns a .579 winning percentage away from home over the past 12 years.  The 2019 Villanova Football season is presented by Independence Blue Cross.

Saturday's game will be broadcast on NBC Sports Boston and can also be seen digitally on FloFootball.  Fans can also listen to the radio call with Ryan Fannon and Kevin Reilly on 610 ESPN as well as online via TuneIn.  The digital broadcast on FloFootball can be seen across all screens by downloading the FloSports app on iOS, Roku or Apple TV 4.  Special pricing is available for CAA Football fans by visiting flosports.tv/caa.  Becoming a PRO subscriber allows fans to access live and on-demand coverage of exclusive content and games.

Despite having been conference rivals for more than 30 years, Villanova and New Hampshire have faced each other just once in the last five seasons.  That meeting came last season on the Main Line when the visiting Wildcats tallied a 34-0 victory.  Villanova trails the all-time series with New Hampshire by a narrow 13-11 margin, with their last victory in the series coming in the second round of the 2009 playoffs.  The series is evenly split with 12 meetings at both Villanova and at New Hampshire, with Villanova owning a 5-7 all-time record in Durham.

One of the storylines for the Wildcats this season has been the play of three true freshmen in wide receiver Jaaron Hayek (Wayne, N.J.) and the running back duo of DeeWil Barlee (Malvern, Pa.) and TD Ayo-Durojaiye (Damascus, Md.).  The three first-year players have combined for nearly a quarter of Villanova's all-purpose yards this season, amassing a total of 1,109 yards between them.  Hayek is tied for the team lead with six receiving touchdowns and is second among the Wildcats receivers with 30 receptions for 453 yards.

Barlee and Durojaiye are each coming off their best games of the season versus Stony Brook last week.  Barlee broke out for 164 all-purpose yards in a narrow 36-35 loss, rushing for a season-high 131 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries while also hauling in a 33-yard reception.  Durojaiye rushed for a season-high 40 yards and a touchdown to go along with throwing a 24-yard touchdown pass.  Villanova topped 500 yards of total offense for the second time this season against Stony Brook and averaged a season-high 7.5 yards per play.

On the defensive end, three of the more prominent veterans on the Wildcats roster had notable games last week.  Junior linebacker Forrest Rhyne (Waynesboro, Pa.) had a team-high 10 tackles versus Stony Brook, marking his third straight game and fourth outing this season reaching double digits.  In the last three games against William & Mary, James Madison and the Seawolves, Rhyne has totaled 38 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks.  Senior linebacker and fellow tri-captain Drew Wiley (Pennington, N.J.) had a career-high four tackles for loss in last week's game, becoming the Wildcats first player with four tackles for loss in a game since 2016.  Wiley now leads the team with 11.0 TFL for the season, ranks second to Rhyne with 46 tackles and 4.5 sacks, and has added a forced fumble, two fumble recoveries, an interception and five pass breakups.

Junior cornerback Jaquan Amos (Philadelphia, Pa.) is also coming off a good game after returning to full action against Stony Brook.  He missed two games due to injury earlier in the year before playing limited snaps at James Madison.  Back at full strength versus the Seawolves, Amos tied a season-high with seven tackles, recorded his third interception of the season and the eighth of his career and also had two pass breakups.

By the time Villanova returns home from this weekend's trip to Durham, N.H., it will have traveled more than 2,800 miles this season for road games against Colgate, Bucknell, Towson, William & Mary, James Madison and New Hampshire.  There is a respite in sight for the Wildcats, who close the regular season with a three-game homestand starting on November 9 against Richmond (1 p.m., Villanova Stadium).
