Water Polo to Begin Convergence Tournament Friday

Villanova, Pa. – Water Polo is prepared to begin their next tournament which takes place in Claremont, California. They will face Occidental at 1:00 PM and then face Caltech at 4:45 PM on Friday. On Saturday, they will face La Verne at 2:30 PM and Fresno Pacific at 6:15 PM.

A Look at Villanova: The Wildcats are coming off of a 2-2 record in the W&J Invitational, however both games they lost were each just by one goal. Freshman Kaysie Stuba leads the team in points with 52. She has 24 goals and 10 assists on the season. Kate Stenmoen is right behind her with 25 points including 20 goals. Kate Murray has 14 goals with 23 points, and Charlotte Curran and Malia Gacutan trail her with 22 and 21 points respectively. Rachel Jennings has been starting the game in net for Villanova while freshman Gaby Palmisano comes in to relieve her in the second half. Stuba was just named MAAC Rookie of the Week for the second time this season. She looks to continue the great play heading into the West Coast trip.

A Look at Occidental: Occidental has begun their season with a record of 3-2. They opened their season at the W&J Invitational this past weekend and beat Grove City, Penn State Behrend, and Wittenberg. They dropped a game to Salem in the tournament. On Wednesday they lost to Pomona-Pitzer at home by a score of 21-6. The Tigers will take on Villanova, VMI, Siena, and Grove City in the Convergence Tournament.

A Look at Caltech: Caltech opened their season Wednesday night facing off against Cal Lutheran. They fell in the game 18-2. Sophie Devoe and Katie Johnston scored the two goals for the Beavers. They will face Grove City, Villanova, Cal St. Monterey Bay, and Siena in this weekend's tournament.

A Look at La Verne: La Verne opened up their season last Friday and currently own a record of 0-3. They fell to Sonoma State, Cal Baptist, and Redlands. The Leopards will also play four games in the tournament including matchups against McKendree, Grove City, Villanova, and VMI.

A Look at Fresno Pacific: Fresno Pacific has started the season with a 1-10 record. Their lone win came against Toronto this past Saturday. They will face four MAAC teams in this weekend's tournament. They are La Salle, Siena, St. Francis Brooklyn and Villanova.
