Softball Drops a Close 2-1 Matchup to Penn State

Clearwater, Fl. – The Wildcats dropped a close one to Penn State today by a score of 2-1.

Both of the Nittany Lion runs came in the first inning and was enough to propel them to a victory. Anissa Amarillas got the start for Villanova and went through the first inning allowing two runs. Paige Rauch then came in relief and threw five scoreless innings to keep the Cats in striking distance.

Five different Wildcats were able to get hits including Julia DaCosta's third home run of the season in the fifth inning to cut the lead to just one. Olivia LaQua was then able to reach on an error and Angela Giampolo singled to put two runners on with one out, but Villanova could not get them home.

Villanova came to bat in the seventh inning but could not get anything going as a DaCosta leadoff walk was the lone baserunner.

This was the final game before the USF Tournament. It will begin Friday morning when the Wildcats face off against Saint Francis at 10:00 A.M. and then Holy Cross at 12:30 P.M.
