Villanova, Pa. – In a rather low scoring game, a three-run walk off home run from
Paige Rauch gave the Wildcats the edge over Lehigh 5-2.
The Mountain Hawks scored the first run of the game on a wild pitch in the first inning and would be held off the scoreboard again until the seventh inning.
Villanova got their first run of the game when
Lauren Hanna singled that scored Rauch. Hanna got caught up in a run-down which gave Rauch enough time to score with a nifty slide avoiding the tag from the catcher.
After Lehigh took the lead in the top of the seventh, the Wildcats would waste no time tying it back up and then winning the game.
Jordan Olivarez tied the game when she reached on a fielder's choice and
Megan Ruiz was able to come around to score.
Angela Giampolo was the next batter up and was able to score on an error by the first baseman, which brought up Rauch. In a 1-0 count, she blasted her 15th
home run of the year to deep right field, and there was no doubt about it as soon as it left the bat.
Rauch started the game on the mound and pitched three innings allowing just three hits, one run, one walk, and struck out six.
Anissa Amarillas made her return in the circle throwing three shutout innings allowing just three hits and one walk.
Sara Kennedy pitched the seventh inning and picked up her 10th win of the season.
Villanova will be back in action this weekend with a big three-game series against DePaul at home.
