VILLANOVA, Pa.—Sophomore women's cross country runner
Lydia Olivere (Wilmington, Del.) was named the Office of Academic Support Student-Athlete of the Month presented by Rothman Orthopaedics for November for her combination of athletic and academic success. The leading contributor to the Wildcats during a successful 2019 season was the Mid-Atlantic Region Athlete of the Year and is earning her first career Student-Athlete of the Month honor.
Olivere was the individual champion at both the BIG EAST Championships and the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional, becoming the first Villanova women's runner in six years to accomplish that double. She went on to earn All-America honors at the NCAA Championships after helping lead the Wildcats to a team berth at the national meet for the sixth straight year and the 11
th time in the last 12 seasons. Prior to the postseason meets, Olivere won the season-opening Main Line Invitational and was the Wildcats second runner across the finish line at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational.
The honors for Olivere during the season include being a first team All-BIG EAST selection and a Mid-Atlantic All-Region performer. She set personal best times for both three-mile and 6,000-meter courses. Outside of competition, the Liberal Arts major was named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll in each of her first two collegiate semesters in 2018-19. She was also a member of the 2018 USTFCCCA All-Academic Team and the BIG EAST All-Academic as a freshman.
