Villanova, Pa.- Despite being tied at halftime the Villanova Wildcats fell to the Yale Bulldogs by a final of 18-12 on Saturday afternoon.
Junior
Colin Crowley had a career high day and started it off with the first goal of the game in the opening seconds to put the Wildcats up. The Bulldogs answered back scoring five straight in less then seven minutes to go up 5-1. Villanova closed the gap to two after back to back goes by
Connor Kirst and
Corey McManus, but Yale wasn't done for the quarter; the Bulldogs netted two unassisted goals in the final minutes to go up 7-3.
Villanova dominated in the second quarter, outscoring Yale 6-2. Kirst and Crowley netted unassisted goals to start then Crowley set up McManus for an EMO to end the four-goal run Crowley competed a hat trick to tie the game at 7. Yale then netted two quick goals to go back up two, but Kirst would score a pair before halftime to tie it all up at 9.Â
To open the second half Yale scored back-to-back man-up goals but Villanova answered back tying it for the third time. Crowley picked up his seventh point of the game on a assist to
Keegan Khan midway through the quarter and minutes later Kirst set up McManus to make it 11 all. After Yale went on a 7-1 run to close the game. The Wildcats lone goal was netted by
Owen Black in the final seconds to make the final 18-12.Â
Will Vitton started in goal and played the just over 47 minutes before
Brendan Haggerty made his career debut in goal. The junior finished with two saves playing the final 12 minutes. Both Justin Coopola and
Dan Fisher took the Wildcats faceoff's against Yale and went 10-34. Redshirt junior
Patrick Kennedy and graduate student
Jared Warner had a team high five ground balls while Kirst and
Matt Webster caused two turnover each.
Next the Wildcats will wrap up the home stand against the Maryland Terrapins on Tuesday, Feb. 18
