Wildcats Shut Out FAU, Fall to UCF

ORLANDO, Fla. – After going 1-1 on the first day of the Knights Classic, Villanova's softball team was looking to rebound on day two.

The Wildcats were dominant against Florida Atlantic, downing the Owls 5-0. Paige Rauch got the start and responded by becoming the 10th player in Villanova history to throw a no hitter. She went a full seven innings and racked up 13 strike outs.

Things opened up on offense in the third inning when the Wildcats hit back-to-back home runs thanks to Rauch and Chloe Smith. Julia DaCosta scored in the fourth, followed by Caroline Jones who scored on a throwing error. DaCosta would score again in the bottom of the sixth with a home run of her own.

Against UCF in the second game, Villanova got off to a slow start. The Knights were able to put up six runs before the Becky Ducar got Villanova on the board with her first home run of the season. Shortly after, UCF answered with a homer of its own.

Sarah Hangsleben had a double off the centerfield wall, bringing Dani Dabroski and Sydney Hayes around to score in the sixth.

Rauch led off for Villanova in the seventh and responded with a double to left field. Smith was then walked before Megan Kern reached first on a fielder's choice. With one out and two on, DaCosta was looking to make a play and extend the game. However, UCF was able to come up with the double play, ending the ballgame.

Villanova is now 5-4 on the year. They wrap up the Knights Classic tomorrow when they take on Penn State at 9:00 AM.
