Villanova to take on Penn and Drexel in Philly 4 Classic This Weekend

Villanova, Pa.- No. 14 Villanova will take on the No. 9 Penn Quakers in their first game of the Philly 4 Lacrosse Classic on Friday night at Franklin Field.  This will be the second game on Friday, first at 5:00 P.M. will be Saint Joseph's and Drexel and after will be the Wildcats an Quakers at 7:30 P.M.  On Sunday the Wildcats will take on the Drexel Dragons at 12:00 P.M. at Saint Joseph's and at 2:30 P.M. will be the Quakers and the Hawks.  For Friday's game one ticket will give fans admission to both games at Franklin Field and on Sunday admission is free to Sweeney Field. 

A Look at Villanova: The Wildcats are 3-2 entering Friday's contest and are on a three-game winning streak.  Last weekend Villanova defeated Delaware 19-10 and Matt Campbell earned BIG EAST Midfielder of the Week after contributing six points on four goals and two assists.  Connor Kirst leads the Wildcats with 20 points on 13 goals and seven assists.  The senior captain has placed 66% of the shots he has taken on goal.  Keegan Khan is leading the attack with 17 points, Campbell has 14 this season, while Corey McManus and Patrick Daly both have contributed 12. 

In goal has been Will Vitton, the sophomore has a .479 save percentage, 13.14 goals against average, and 57 total saves.  Justin Coppola has been the Wildcats primary FOG this season and is 55-for-111 (.459) and have 22 ground balls.  Patrick Kennedy has a team high nine caused turnover along with 18 ground balls. 

A Look at Penn: The Quakers are 1-2 overall and have played three top 10 teams to open their season.  Penn opened the season at No. 4 Maryland where they fell 17-15, next the defeated No. 10 Duke 14-11, and last weekend fell in their home opener to No. 2 Penn State 18-17 in overtime.  Last season Penn advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament before falling to Yale in overtime. 

Offensively Penn is led by a pair of attackmen in Sean Lulley and Dylan Gergar.  Lulley has a team high 21 points on 12 goals and nine assists while Gergar has 13 points on nine goals and four assists.  The Quakers third starting attack Adam Goldner has netted five goals and dished out a pair of assists while 13 others have at least contributed one point through the first three games.  Sophomore Patrick Burkinshaw has played every minute in goal and has a 15.23 goals against average, .370 save percentage, and 27 total saves. 

A Look at Drexel: The Dragons are 2-2 and will take on the Saint Joseph's Hawks Friday night before they face the Wildcats on Sunday.  Drexel is riding a two-game win streak coming into the second annual Philly 4 Lacrosse Classic.  Last week on Tuesday Drexel defeated Robert Morris in their home opener 24-12 and most recently won 13-11 against Marquette.

Matthew Varian is the Dragons leading attackman with 19 points, he picked up seven of those during Drexel's win over Robert Morris.  Midfielder Ryan Genord has a team high 14 goals this season while Collin Mailman has 12 and Reid Bowering has 13.  Taking faceoffs will be Jimmeh Koita who is 61-for-125 (.488) on the season with a team high 37 ground balls.  Sophomore Ross Blumenthal Drexel's goalkeeper.  The sophomore in 234 minutes between the posts has a .469 save percentage, 13.32 goals against average, and 46 total saves.
