Four Goals in 5:23 Help Carry Cats Past Quinnipiac 5-0

Villanova swept the weekend set against Quinnipiac

Villanova seized control of its game Sunday with a four goal second quarter that propelled it to a 5-0 win over Quinnipiac at the Proving Grounds. With the win, the Wildcats swept the weekend series from the Bobcats and recorded their third straight triumph (3-5 overall, 3-5 BIG EAST).

Following a scoreless first period, Villanova broke through when Riley Dolan scored at 21:54. Sabine de Ruijter and Ashley Thomas were credited with assists on the goal.

A little more than three minutes later, Nova struck again. This time it was a Meghan Mitchell goal with assists to Emily Clarke and Dolan. Two minutes after that, the Wildcats posted their third goal, this one off the stick of Clarke, with assists handed out to Amanda Middleman and Mitchell.

Rachael Overlander completed the outburst with an unassisted goal at 27:17.

It was a four goal explosion in just 5:23 of game action.

Meanwhile, Villanova's defense was superb. Goalie Jordan McGinley made five saves as she earned the shutout.

The Wildcats picked up their final goal of the day in the fourth quarter when Mitchell registered her second score of the day.

Villanova will be back at the Proving Grounds next Saturday looking to build on its recent momentum. The Wildcats will host Drexel at 4 p.m. and then welcome La Salle to the Proving Grounds on March 22.
