STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.—A group of six athletes were in competition during the Villanova Indoor Meet at Ocean Breeze Track & Field Athletic Complex on Friday afternoon. It was a small but successful meet for the Wildcats, who fielded entries in the sprints and jumps as the team continues to round into form during the most unique of competition seasons.
Senior sprinter and jumper
Michael Troup (Doylestown, Pa.) recorded a time of 7.19 in the 60 meters and a mark of 6.97 meters in the long jump in his first official competition since the end of the 2020 indoor campaign. He tallied first place finishes in each event in a meet that featured athletes from Villanova and Wagner as well as a number of unattached entries.
A trio of sprinters competed for the Wildcats in the 400 meters and senior
Keegan Hughes (Malvern, Pa.) finished first with a winning time of 49.35. Freshman
Nicholas Mollica (Jackson, N.J.) followed him in second place with a personal best mark of 50.10, while sophomore
Mac Costonis (Lower Gwynedd, Pa.) was third in 50.89.
Hughes also finished third in the 200 meters with a time of 22.78, with senior
Richie Bush (Lawnside, N.J.) winning that race in 22.31.
Junior triple jumper
Malik Cunningham (St. Andrew, Jamaica) won his event with a measured distance of 14.36 meters.
