Villanova Rolls Past Georgetown 82-53

Kaitlyn Orihel Scores A Career-High 20 Points In The Victory

WASHINGTON, DC – The No. 15 Villanova Wildcats traveled to Washington, D.C., on Wednesday evening where they registered an 82-53 win over the Georgetown Hoyas. With the victory, Villanova improves to 21-4 overall and 12-2 in BIG EAST play, while the Hoyas fall to 12-12 on the year and 5-10 in league action.
 
After a slow start that saw Georgetown lead 5-3 midway through the first quarter, the Wildcats closed the period on a 21-2 run to lead 24-7 after one. Six different Wildcats scored in the spurt highlighted by senior Maddy Siegrist who had eight of the 21 points on a conventional three-point play, a three-ball and two free throws. Sophomore Kaitlyn Orihel gave Villanova a boost off the bench with five points.
 
Leading 32-13 with 5:27 to play in the second quarter, Villanova went on an 11-2 run to take a 43-15 advantage. Orihel was outstanding in the stretch scoring seven points on a triple and two driving lay-ups. Villanova used the run to lead 43-16 at halftime.
 
Shooting was the difference in the opening half, as the Wildcats were 15-of-37 from the floor and 6-of-13 from three, while Georgetown was 7-of-35 and 1-of-9. Siegrist and Orihel paced Villanova in the opening half with 13 points each.
 
The Wildcats would lead by as many as 31 in the second half and Georgetown did not get within 24 as Villanova cruised to the win.     
 
In the victory, Siegrist led the way with 27 points and 12 rebounds, while Orihel tallied a career-high 20 points on 8-of-9 shooting, including a 4-of-5 effort from three-point range. The four triples tie a career-best effort. Sophomore guard Lucy Olsen was the third Wildcat in double figures with 10 points to go with seven assists.
 
Georgetown was led by Kristina Moore with 12 points and Kennedy Fauntleroy who had 11 points and eight rebounds.
 
For the game, Villanova shot 46.3 percent from the floor (31-of-67), 40.0 percent from long distance (10-of-25) and 66.7 percent from the foul line (10-of-15), while the Hoyas were 21-of-66 from the field (31.8%), 3-of-15 from long distance (20.0%) and 8-of-13 from the charity stripe (61.5%). Villanova owned a 47-35 advantage on the backboards.      
 
Villanova returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 11, when the Seton Hall Pirates visit the Finneran Pavilion. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
 
NOTES: Villanova is 18-4 versus Georgetown in the last 22 meetings and lead the all-time series by a 49-24 count…The Wildcats improve to 11-1 in road games…Villanova has won 12 of its last 13 games…Maddy Siegrist went over the 2,500 career point mark and now has 2,521 career points to her credit…Siegrist now has 49 career double-doubles and 12 for the season…Lucy Olsen has 17 double figure scoring games this season.
