VILLANOVA, Pa. – Forward Trey Patterson (Somerset, N.J./Rutgers Prep) underwent successful surgery Wednesday on his right (shooting) shoulder to repair a torn labrum and will be sidelined from basketball activities indefinitely.
In May, the junior underwent successful arthroscopic surgery on both hips. Prior to that, Patterson had sports hernia surgery in August 2022.
"It's really been a difficult stretch of significant injuries for Trey," stated Villanova head coach Kyle Neptune. "In my years of coaching I can't recall a player having to undergo three different major surgeries in 11 months. We all feel for Trey and have tremendous respect for the great attitude he has maintained throughout this. We look forward to the day when Trey can rejoin us on the court."
The recovery from last summer's sports hernia procedure cost the 6-9 forward much of the preseason practice period in September and October. He would go on to appear in 22 games, averaging 6.9 minutes per outing. In 2021-22, he was a reserve on the unit that claimed the 2022 BIG EAST Tournament championship and advanced to the NCAA Final Four in New Orleans.
