New for the 2025-26 academic year, Villanova will announce its top performers from the previous week in a press release and social media post each Monday afternoon. The weekly wrap will recognize one standout student-athlete from each sport who competed during the previous week.
 Â
VILLANOVA, Pa.—It was yet another breakout game for wide receiver Luke Colella (Wexford, Pa.), who has had a string of them this season, as the football team extended its winning streak to three games. Colella highlights six student-athletes on this week's Villanova Athletics Weekly Wrap for the period of October 6-12. This week's wrap features Colella along with field hockey junior back Addie Froehlich (Virginia Beach, Va.); men's soccer sophomore midfielder Karson Vazquez (Winter Garden, Fla.); women's soccer junior forward Alex Little (Fallbrook, Calif.); freshman men's swimmer Hugh Boris (Denver, Colo.) and volleyball graduate opposite hitter Ava Mehrten (Walnut Creek, Calif.).
Â
Colella became the first Villanova player in 15 years to have at least 10 receptions in a game when he hauled in a career high 10 passes for 125 yards and two touchdowns in a 29-21 win at Elon. The touchdowns were his first two of the season and the yardage marked the fourth time this season that Colella has topped the century mark in a game. Through the first six games played this season, Colella ranks in the top 10 nationally in receiving yards per game (5th, 99.3); receptions per game (6th, 6.67); and receiving yards (8th, 596).

The women's soccer team tallied its first win at St. John's in 25 years with a 1-0 decision on Saturday night. Little registered the game winner in the 12th minute in a dominant Wildcats performance that saw Villanova outshoot the Red Storm by a 22-2 margin. The goal was the first of the season for Little, who has five points on the year and has started each of the last eight games on the front line. There was also a first for men's soccer as Vazquez scored his first career goal last week. It was a game-winner for the Wildcats in the 47th minute of a 1-0 shutout over NJIT. Vazquez has earned seven starts in 11 games played and tallied shots on goal in both Villanova outings against NJIT and a conference matchup with Seton Hall last week.
Â
Mehrten had a season high 12 kills to go along with three digs and a block assist in a 3-1 win for volleyball in a conference matchup against Georgetown midweek. The graduate transfer from California hit at a .455 clip versus the Hoyas while increasing her season totals to 71 kills and 51 total blocks. She added four kills versus Creighton later in the week. Field hockey played two games last week and Froehlich tallied a point with an assist off a penalty corner against Old Dominion on Friday afternoon. Froehlich is in her first season as a starter for Villanova and has made her biggest impacts on the team's set pieces. She has season totals of two goals, three assists and seven points.
Â
The men's swimming and diving team opened its season in a tournament at NJIT and Boris made an immediate splash in his collegiate debut. He won the 200 yard breaststroke in 2:00.32 and was just .06 off the Wildcats standing school record. The performance was nevertheless good for number two in school history and Boris added a second win later in the meet when he touched first in the 100 breaststroke in 56.27.
