VILLANOVA, Pa. — The Villanova softball team is set to welcome Butler to the Villanova Softball Complex Friday to Sunday in its second BIG EAST series.
VU (5-19, 2-1 BIG EAST) enters the game with momentum having won three of its last five games. The 'Cats defeated DePaul 2-1 in its first BIG EAST series March 6-8.
In a midweek matchup with Monmouth Wednesday, Villanova won 10-2 in five innings, scoring the second-most runs the team has scored this season.
The series with the Bulldogs (7-9, 0-0) is a rematch of the 'Cats final game of last season, when Butler ended Villanova's season with a 13-10 win at the BIG EAST tournament.
Heading into the weekend, the series record between the two schools is tightly contested, with the Bulldogs holding a 14-13 lead over the 'Cats.
Maddie Burrows leads Villanova, slashing .344/.531/.488 with 22 hits, seven doubles and 16 runs.
Lexi Kobryn, while not yet meeting the minimum requirement for season stats, has continued to swing the bat well, leading the 'Cats with 13 RBIs.

Maranda Runco has begun to find her footing at the plate, batting 5-14 (.357) and hitting three home runs.
Butler is led on offense by Makena Alexander, who is batting .500 in 46 plate appearances, with 23 hits and five home runs.
