Sport: Field Hockey

Megan Vermeil

Looking back on the past four years – what has been the most memorable moment or experience?

One of my most memorable field hockey experiences is when we beat ODU to go to the Big East Tournament my junior year.  It was in shoot outs which made it that much more exciting!

What are your plans post-graduation?

I hope to pursue a job within the sports field in either Philadelphia or New York City.

I am so fortunate to have the option to do whatever I want to do in life, and I owe it to those women who have paved the way before me.

How has Villanova & being a female-student athlete helped shape the person you are?

Being a female student athlete has essentially shaped everything about me as a person.  I have learned valuable lessons such as discipline, accountability, time management, and a drive to always better myself.  It has also taught me to be a better person in the sense that I need to lift others up for the betterment of my team.

What does female empowerment mean to you?

Female empowerment is extremely important to me because it has given me the opportunity to choose what I want to do and who I want to be.  I am so fortunate to have the option to do whatever I want to do in life, and I owe it to those women who have paved the way before me.

Who is your biggest inspiration and why?

My biggest inspiration is my mom.She has shaped me into the outgoing, confident and brave woman that I am today.  She is my go-to through all my ups and downs and believes in me no matter what.  She has also embedded core values in me that I know I will carry into the future as a raise my own children!

Dick Vermeil, former head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles, is your grandfather – so cool! He has a very impressive resume having coached three NFL teams, all of whom he brought to the playoffs during his tenure. I’m sure he has shared some great stories– what lessons has he taught you?

I am so lucky and thankful to have grown up with him as a grandfather.  Having him in my life as a role model, he has taught me many lessons about leadership, being a good teammate, and overall being the best version of myself.  Because of him, I am the confident and strong-minded person that I am proud to be.
