Caroline Alcorta is in her first year on the Villanova track & field and cross country staff in 2019-20. She joins the staff as a graduate assistant and will work with the Wildcats coaching staff in a number of administrative areas. Alcorta concluded her stellar collegiate career in 2018-19 as a three-time outdoor All-American.
In her only year of competition for Villanova as a graduate transfer from North Carolina, Alcorta won three BIG EAST titles and earned All-America honors outdoors in both the 10000 meters and the 5000 meters. She tallied a fifth place finish in the 10K and became the Wildcats first women’s athlete in 25 years to score in the event at the national championships. Alcorta was the outdoor BIG EAST champion in both the 5K and the 10K. She also won the individual BIG EAST title in cross country.
Alcorta notched the second-fastest time in school history in the 10000 meters and the program’s sixth-fastest time in the 5000 meters during her one year of competition for Villanova. She recorded a time of 32:53.26 in the 10K at the Stanford Invitational to jump into second place on the Wildcats all-time performance list. During the indoor season, Alcorta posted a time of 15:45.64 in the 5000 meters at the Husky Classic in Seattle. She was also a member of Villanova’s champion 4x1500 meter relay squad at the Penn Relays, where she recorded a split of 4:28.0 on the third leg of the race.
Alcorta began her collegiate career at North Carolina, where she was a four-year member of the track & field and cross country seasons. She earned second team All-America honors in the 10000 meters as a senior in 2018 and was an eight-time All-ACC performer spanning the cross country, indoor and outdoor seasons.
A native of Springfield, Va., Alcorta was the New Balance High School Girls’ Mile champion at the Millrose Games in 2014. She anchored West Springfield High School to three national championships in the distance medley relay at the New Balance Nationals and also anchored the DMR squad to a Championship of America title in the high school girls race at the Penn Relays in 2014.
