Joe Dwyer

Joe Dwyer is the Sports Performance Coach for Villanova Men’s Lacrosse, Volleyball and Men’s and Women’s Tennis.

Most recently, Dwyer worked at Georgetown University as Director of Sport Performance for Men’s Lacrosse, Baseball and Volleyball, while assisting with Football. In this role, he led all aspects of performance programming, developed comprehensive return-to-play protocols and implemented sport-specific testing systems utilizing sports science technology to enhance athlete development.

Prior to Georgetown, Dwyer was a Strength and Conditioning Coach at Army West Point, where he worked with Baseball and Wrestling in addition to assisting with Volleyball. There, he adapted programming to meet the demands of a rigorous military training schedule, optimizing athlete performance within limited training windows.

He also gained experience at the University of Georgia as a Strength and Conditioning Intern with the football program, where he spearheaded the development and implementation of all return-to-play programming during the 2023 season. During his time in Athens, he worked extensively with advanced sports science technologies, including velocity-based training systems, force plates, hamstring testing devices, and athlete monitoring tools.

Dwyer began his coaching career at James Madison University, where he had the opportunity to transition from intern to Interim Strength and Conditioning Coach. He led performance programs for Field Hockey, Women’s Lacrosse and Men’s Tennis, collaborating closely with sports medicine staff to integrate data-driven return-to-play strategies.

In addition to his coaching experience, Dwyer spent four years as a Student Athletic Training Aide with the James Madison football program, assisting with athlete rehabilitation and helping develop a student work-study program within the sports medicine department.

Dwyer holds a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology with a concentration in Exercise Science from James Madison University and a Master of Science in Strength and Conditioning from Logan University. He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the NSCA and also holds USA Weightlifting Level 1 and Functional Range Conditioning (FRC) certifications.
