Women's Basketball Tops Lithuania, 87-67

VILLANOVA, Pa.- In exhibition play at The Pavilion, the Villanova Wildcats defeated a touring team from Lithuania, 87-67. Villanova was hot from downtown, as the Wildcats connected on 13 three-point field goals.

The two teams traded leads throughout the first half. With the scored tied at 18-18 at the 9:31 mark, Lithuania scored five straight points to take its biggest lead of the game at 26-21.

Villanova quickly responded, as senior forward Jenn Sliwa hit back-to-back shots including a three-point field goal from the left corner. The lead went back and forth the rest of the half, before the Wildcats scored the final four points to take a 38-34 lead at intermission.

Following a Mimi Riley lay-up to start the second half, Wildcat sophomore guard Lauren Pellicane buried consecutive three-point field goals to give Villanova a 46-38 lead with 16:43 to play.

Junior Jenea Skeeters connected on a 15-foot running jump shot at the 11:16 mark to give Villanova a 58-47 advantage. Villanova would lead by double figures the rest of the way.

Villanova placed three players in double figures, including redshirt freshman Therese Pennefather who was five-for-five from the field and a perfect four-of-four from behind the arc for 14 points and Pellicane who buried four triples en route to sharing team-high honors of 14 points with Pennefather.

Sophomore center Brandi Barnes, who transferred to the Main Line from the University of Maryland, was impressive in her Wildcat debut with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Senior point guard Shanette Lee tallied eight points and six assists.

Lithuania was paced by guard Loreta Stankeviciene and forward Vilma Tamuleviciute who each tallied 13 points.

The Wildcats will play their final exhibition game of the pre-season on Tuesday, November 10 when they host the New York Gazelles in the Jake Nevin Field House at 8 p.m.
