VILLANOVA, Pa. - In a recent article, Kevin Callahan of the Camden Courier Post picked the Villanova University All-Time Basketball Team. Here are his thoughts on the players who made the grade:
Villanova University All-Time Basketball Team
Pos Name Ht Years F Paul Arizin 6-3 1948-50 F Howard Porter 6-8 1969-71 C Ed Pinckney 6-9 1982-85 G Kerry Kittles 6-5 1993-96 G Wali Jones 6-1 1962-64
Notes
...Arizin was one of the great players of his generation. He scored a school-record 85 points in one game in 1949 and was national player of the year in 1950, averaging 25.3 ppg.
...Porter is fifth all-time in scoring (2,026, 22.8) and the school's leading rebounder with 1,317.
...Pinckney (14.4 ppg, 1,107 career rebounds) edged out John Pinone (16.1, 837 rebounds) at center; he was the best player on the Wildcats' only national championship team in 1985.
...Kittles is not only Villanova's all-time leading scorer (2,243 points, 18.4 ppg) but also its career leader in steals with 277.
...Jones posted a career 16.8 scoring average and probably was the school's flashiest player.
...The bench: John Pinone, Chris Ford, Bobby Schafer, Bill Melchionni, Keith Herron and Jim Washington.
