Wildcats Shoot the Lights Out in Win Over Seton Hall

Traveling to South Orange, N.J., on Saturday, Jan. 29, for a Big East showdown against Seton Hall University, the Villanova University women's basketball team shot 60 percent from the field and got a career-high 24 points from freshman guard Trish Juhline to coast to a 76-63 victory. The Wildcats' win, their second straight and seventh in their last nine games, improved their record to 11-7 overall and 4-3 in the Big East. The Pirates fell to 6-10 and 0-6 in conference play with the loss.

With the score tied at 18-18 with 10:13 to go in the first half, Villanova went on a 22-10 run to take a 40-28 lead into intermission. Senior guard Jenea Skeeters scored 10 points for the `Cats during the run. Villanova shot 59 percent from the field in the first half and were led by Juhline's 16 points and four three-pointers.

The Wildcats opened up the second half on an 8-2 run to increase their advantage to 48-30. Juhline had six of Villanova's first eight second-half points. The `Cats' lead would get as large as 64-41 with 10:23 to play, as they went on for the 76-63 victory.

Villanova finished the game shooting 29-for-48 from the field for 60 percent. The Wildcats also shot 10-of-22 (45%) from three-point range, and eight-of-10 from the foul line. The 10 three-pointers tied a season high, while the 60 percent shooting from the field was a new season-high.

Juhline finished the contest with a career-high 24 points. She shot nine-of-12 from the field, in addition to four-for-seven shooting from the three-point stripe. Skeeters also scored double-figures for Villanova, with 21 points on seven-of-10 from the field and a percent three-for-three from lone distance.

Rounding out the Wildcat scoring were freshman Katie Davis with nine points, fellow freshman Nicole Druckenmiller with eight, junior center Brandi Barnes with eight points and seven rebounds, and Megan Stewart, Daniela Schroeder and Stephanie Baker who each tallied two points.

For the Pirates in the loss, Arminda Moreno scored a team-high 15 points, while Erica Ashmon and Devin Jefferson each had 10. Seton Hall shot 45 percent for the game, and out-rebounded Villanova 28-24.

The Wildcats will get back into action on Tuesday, Feb. 1, hosting the Syracuse Orangewomen at 7:30 p.m.
