The Villanova men's tennis team made their spring home opener a memorable one as they defeated the University of Delaware Blue Hens 7-0. With the win, the Wildcats' record moves up to 5-3 overall.
Wildcat senior Robert Waibel set the pace for the afternoon as he defeated Delaware's Chris Johnson at the first singles post by a score of 6-0, 3-6, and 6-1. This win was the second straight for Waibel in the spring season. After dropping the first set 2-6, Villanova freshman Ryan Devine went on to win the next two, 6-2 and 6-1, to defeat his opponent at fourth singles, Delaware's David Monet.
In doubles action on the day, the Villanova pairing of Ryan Devine and A.J. Rhode blanked their Blue Hen competition at third doubles, Jesse Leopold and Myron Schwartz, posting a score of 8-0.
The Wildcats return to play on Sunday, March 19 when they travel to College Park, Md. to take on the University of Maryland Terps.
