Understanding the New Landscape

College athletics continues to evolve. These four ideas provide a practical foundation for understanding the current environment and the support available to Villanova student-athletes.

What is NIL?

Name, Image and Likeness refers to a student-athlete’s ability to receive compensation from third parties for approved uses of their publicity rights.

What is revenue sharing?

Revenue sharing is institution-administered compensation made available within the applicable settlement, legal and athletics-governance framework.

03 / THE DIFFERENCE

How are they different?

NIL generally involves a third party and an exchange of value. Revenue sharing is administered directly through the institution.

Villanova Athletics Strategic Excellence Fund

The Villanova Athletics Strategic Excellence Fund (VASE) is a tax-deductible fundraising initiative launched in response to the changing landscape of college athletics and the House v. NCAA settlement. VASE serves as the primary philanthropic mechanism supporting Villanova's revenue sharing commitment and provides resources to help sustain the long-term success of Villanova Athletics.

VASE will primarily support Men's and Women's Basketball, helping provide the resources needed to recruit and retain talented student-athletes and position Villanova among the top programs in the BIG EAST and nationally.
