Nine turnovers and just three points in the game's opening eight minutes got things off on the wrong foot for Villanova. The Wildcats stayed close despite the early turnover troubles, committing only one more turnover in the final 12 minutes. Villanova entered the half trailing by just three, 25-22.
In the second half, Villanova fell behind early, 35-26 with 16:19 remaining. The Wildcats responded over the next 13 minutes by bringing the score to within two, 46-44. With 1:28 left in regulation, Villanova and Seton Hall traded baskets until Courtney Mix caused the Pirates' sixth turnover in the second half. The freshman was then fouled after following her own missed shot. Mix drained both free throws to lock the score at 50-50. After a timeout, Seton Hall inbounded the ball. The Pirates made what seemed like a costly turnover when Moreno stepped out of bounds with 44.9 seconds remaining. However, the Pirates defense responded by blocking Trish Juhline's three-point attempt. Seton Hall then called a timeout. The Pirates had the ball with 27.6 second left and attempted to penetrate the lane before Katie Davis' committed the team's sixth foul. After Davis' foul, Seton Hall inbounded with 3.8 seconds. Moreno got the ball and went to the basket before Davis' fouled her. Moreno then drilled both free throws to give the Pirates the win.
For Villanova on the evening, Juhline tallied 13 points. Joining her on offense was Brandi Barnes and Mix. Both players tallied 11 points. For Barnes, this was the seventh time in the last eight games she has scored in double figures. Junior guard Mimi Riley handed out six assists in the effort.
For Seton Hall, Moreno's late free throws brought her game total to 16 points. She led all players in the game. Leslie Ardon, Devin Jefferson, and Starr Fuller each added eight points.
