Wildcats Advance To Championship Game

In the first round of the Fairfield University Shehan Classic on Saturday, Nov. 24, the Villanova Wildcats defeated Quinnipiac University by a score of 62-51. With the win, Villanova improves to 2-0 on the season and advances to the tournament's championship game where they will play Harvard on Sunday at 3 p.m.

With the score tied 6-6 at the 14:28 mark of the first half, Villanova sophomore guard Brandi Harris made back-to-back three-point field goals to give the Wildcats a 12-6 advantage. However, Villanova would shoot just 7-of-30 from the field in the first half, commit eight turnovers and go 8:49 without a field goal as Quinnipiac led 23-18 at intermission.

Trailing 25-21 with 17:25 left in regulation, junior forward Katie Davis buried three-straight field goals from behind the arc to give the Wildcats a 30-25 lead. Quinnipiac would hang around and trailed by just four at 42-38 with 9:41 to play. From that point, the 'Cats went on a 20-7 run to take command of the game. Villanova led by as many as 16 at 61-45 before the Braves tallied the last six points of the game.

Davis led Villanova with a game-high 21 points on 7-of-10 shooting, including a 5-of-7 effort from three-point range. Two other Wildcats scored in double figures including senior guard Mimi Riley who netted 13 points and sophomore forward Courtney Mix who had 13 points, five assists and four rebounds.

Quinnipiac was led by Sara Isadora with 13 points.
